Consider changing brands and feeding less?

My mini is 7 months old and she eats 1/8 cup of Canidae grain-free and 1/8 cup of Wellness Super 5 mix for small breed puppies twice a day. She weighs 13 pounds and is extremely energetic and rather skinny. Perhaps you want to switch your dog's food brand? The amount you mentioned also sounds like A LOT! Do check out the label on the food packaging. The amount to feed should be based on the mini's optimal weight (11 - 16 lbs) and not your dog's current weight since he's overweight. Of course, play and exercise Gus daily! I have found that daily grooming and doggy massages help with the metabolism too!

1/2 c per meal??

When you say 1 cup, I assume you mean 1/2 c at each meal which I believe would be correct and equivalent to the 200 gr Michele mentioned.
Just checking to be sure we are on the same page.

Food for your pup

That sounds just fine.. he may be a big boned puppy.. hence the weight.. just get his weight checked at your vet.. it's usually Free (it is in the UK) and give him plenty of excercise.. he'll run it off.. but don't worry 'cos if he's healthy and happy .. he's fine..

Feeding your Schnauzer...

What do you feed him on now and how much.?. he is STILL a puppy and his weight seems a lot for his age.. Dried is good with a good quality protein in..It must be a Puppy food as he's too young for the adult.. I give my Rebel (and Rambo) only 200grams each of the Nature Diet ( Chicken, Rice & Vegetables ) once a day with an equal quantity of mixer.. but he is 3 years old & Rambo is 8 yrs...
