My 5 year old female miniature schnauzer has started scratching the bed and carpet incessantly. She scratches until she is exhausted. She also has become very finicky and will only eat out of my hand or off the floor. These issues appear to come in cycles. I took her to the vet and they could find nothing wrong with her. She is also whinny. Any ideas?

Something is definitely wrong. Dogs get whiney when they want reassurance or are frightened and /or worried about something. There may be a visual disturbance that is making what she sees different so she is scratching at the floor seeing something that is perhaps not there like Migraine sufferers seeing flashing lights or zigzag patterns. She may have ringing in the ears or be going deaf or getting dizzy feelings. She will probably need further examination by a specialist. I apologise if you already know some of this, just searching for something to help. I hope you get to the bottom of this. Best of luck.

Very strange behaviour. Something is irritating her. She could have developed an allergy or intolerance, or it could be something else entirely.
Has she been spayed? Does she scratch herself a lot? I would try various things, spay her if not already done, bath her in a medicated shampoo, change food to a hypoallergenic one or you n
