Loving Scottish home in need of a Schnauzer addition

by Ollie
(Elgin, Scotland)

Hello All
My name is Ollie. My wife Amber and I moved out of our childhood homes just over a year ago and have started our new chapter together in Scotland.

We live in a 3-bed house with a secure garden and would love to add a Schnauzer friend to our home. We’ve both grown up with dogs. I’m the Schnauzer fanatic having grown up with them… and rightly so!

To cut a long story short, we’d much prefer to offer the opportunity to a dog that needs rehoming to come and live with us in Scotland rather than homing a puppy, which will always find a home. We understand the challenges and responsibility with rehoming but are both committed to allowing someone to thrive in our ownership.

We do have 2 cats (who have been tested with my family’s schnauzer, and it was a sweet little play date), so this is something that needs to be considered.

We have no preference over mini or standard, and would preferably prefer a dog between 1 and 5, but this is obviously all subject to change once we hear about and see the person in question!

I’ve been in contact with someone from mini schnauzer rescue and rehome trust and northern schnauzer club rescue. Am just anxiously awaiting some responses!

Thank you all in advance

Good luck! Pamela is the best, so hopefully she can help you find a new addition.
If she is helping you, I'd wait and see if she comes up with a suitable Mini before contacting anybody else.

Thank you so much for approving our post.

We were thrilled to have received a response from Pamela Ciceri last night so fingers crossed we’re on our way to finding our new companion!

Thank you for positing your recommended contacts. I’ll definitely get in touch with the ones I haven’t messaged already.

For anyone else reading this post, as much as we’re in Scotland, we have absolutely no issue traveling. We’re quite used to traveling down south, and this is a perfect reason to do so!

Thank you for your initial support. I’ll keep this page updated with our progress :)

Hi Ollie and Amber,
Sounds like a great life for a Schnauzer!
We don't have Schnauzers to rehome ourselves, we put people who have one to rehome in touch with those offering a new home.
Hopefully somebody in your area will contact you if they are looking for a new home for their Schnauzer.
Also, you're already contacting the right people, but here are our best contacts:

The co-ordinator for Northern Schnauzer Rescue is Pamela Ciceri Pamela.ciceri@btinternet.com. She is based in North Yorkshire but we have found Pamela to be VERY helpful in rehoming Schnauzers with waiting families all over Britain.
Mini SAS on Facebook helps to rehome Minis.
You can also try The Miniature Schnauzer Club Re-Home and Rescue Trust - contact Caroline Wareing on 01242 696 768.
The Schnauzer Club of Great Britain helps to rehome all three sizes. You can contact them online at https://www.schnauzerclub.co.uk/contact.php
ManyTears Rescue in Wales often has Minis for rehoming as well. www.manytearsrescue.org
There are two other Facebook groups that might be useful:
Miniature Schnauzer Puppies For Adoption & Rehoming - https://www.facebook.com/groups/171857699226797
and Miniature Schnauzers In Scotland -https://www.facebook.com/groups/MiniatureSchnauzerScotland.
Good luck,
Linda
