Male Schnauzer itching and scratching all the time

I have a 4 yr. old male schnauzer and he has just started scratching and chewing all over especially on his back hip area.
He has been doing this for almost 3 weeks now. I have given him one flea bath and he had no fleas and I gave him a bath using the new I Love Pet Head shampoo that has no harsh chemicals in it. I have seen some spots on him that look like dirt but he doesn't go outside in the dirt?
I know he is about 3 weeks over due for his dog groom and i was wondering if maybe the wirey looking hair that is coming in could be his problem. He is starting to get some bald spots on his hip area from scratching.
I have dog benedryl but I dont want to keep giving him that every day. I have only gave him benedryl 2 times so far.
Help what is his problem? I still dont see any fleas.

Hi,

Your dog may be allergic to the ingredients in his food. I switched my Giant Schnauzer's food from kibble to raw and all of her itching disappeared!

Hope this helps,
Nancy and Diamond :)

Itching Schnauzer

I think you should take a trip to your vet.. as he may have an allergy towards the food you are giving him..
As for the black spots you've seen..I really think these are Flea dirt, even though you do not think they are, as you say he has not been out in the dirt.. lie him on his back and look between his back legs near his groin, where his fur is thinner and you may see some move.. they are very fast.. but do get him to your vet just in case it is something different..Before you take him to your vet, use a Flea Comb and comb his coat onto white paper, this will tell you the answer...as the black dirt will land on the white paper.. if all fails it'll be to your vet..
