My almost 12yr old male mini schnauzer

My miniature schnauzer is acting weird.
He sniffs his left side then right then puts his head up in the air like he is onto a scent and then will run and stop and start the whole process all over.

Does any one know why he is doing this?? Is he sick?

Not come across this, but Max, who is now nearly 11, has developed a habit of intently sniffing the ground in circles, sticking his head in the air and moving around strangely with his head in the air.
It is entirely behavioural, we have no idea why he does it, but it does not seem to affect him badly. Hopefully that is the case with your dog. Schnauzers are strange creatures, they develop their own little ways!
I would love to be in Max's head for a day...
