Why does my miniature schnauzer (7 months old) stand on his hind legs and watch me when I'm in the kitchen?

Whenever I'm in the kitchen my Schnauzer.. Rebel.. always watches me and also puts his paws on my leg if I am cutting up vegetables, chicken etc.. It's their way of telling you .. Mummy drop some for me ..please !!! but remember.. tomatoes, grapes, onions, sultanas and raisins are POISONOUS to dogs...
